market. Nights during weekends are made wonderful by Batu Ferringhi’s night market. This affair starts from 7pm
until 1am, if not interfered by rains. The whole 2 km stretch of Batu Ferringhi is transformed into a night market
and over 1000 stalls which line the main road selling cheap goods ranging from clothes to souvenirs. There are
small shops selling Batu Ferringhi souvenirs and beach necessities including sarongs, hats, shorts and bathing
suits. There are also money changers if you need to exchange your cash for some local currencies. Also, don’t
forget to sample local hawker foods while there. They are cheap and freshly cooked every time.
Other than having romantic moment with your loved one, you could choose to visit some cultural
or historical places of interest. Kek Lok Si Temple is Malaysia's largest Chinese Buddhist
Temple which situated in Air Itam. You can find a 7-storey, 30 meter tall pagoda and inside the pagoda are 10,000
Buddha images whereby given the temple named as the "Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas". No doubt to climb up to the
top of the pagoda can be quite tiring, but you could slowly walk while look around the souvenir display along the
path way and capture the splendid panoramic view of Penang. Another tourist attraction is visit the historical
Fort Cornwallis and meets the statue of Francis Light. This was the place where Francis Light
first set foot on when he arrived at Penang Island in the year 1786.
You could be a shopaholic while travelling in Penang. Penang is full of shopping mall such as
Queensbay shopping mall situated in Bayan Lepas (the largest mall in Penang), Gurney
Plaza and Prangin Mall Plaza. After some shopping, don’t forget to look for some
delicious Penang local food to full your stomach. There are plenty of delicious and cheap foods that you must have
a try. For example Hokkien Mee, Assam Laksa, Penang Char Koay Teow, Penang Nasi Kandar, Koay Teow Th’ng, Cendol,
Penang Lobak, Penang Char Hor Fun, Durian which you shouldn’t miss!
Before ending your journey, you should buy some famous traditional biscuits such as Tambun
Pneah, Beh Teh Sor, Heong Pneah, Pong Pneah, Tau Sar Pneah and etc as souvenir, whereby Ghee Hiang and Him Heang
are the most famous brand in Penang for the above-mentioned biscuits.
